Guidelines for Artists exhibiting in the Second Story Gallery of the Camas Public Library
2012

Gallery information

The Second Story Gallery Society reserves the right to decide what is displayed in its gallery.  The Society may reject pieces that do not meet minimum standards.

Exhibits that interfere with normal library functions will not be permitted.  Users of any library rooms are required to comply with the Library Rules of Conduct.

City of Camas Fire Department’s posted occupancy limits will be observed at all times.

If your work is selected for exhibit, you will be contacted to discuss specific requirements.  Generally:

Your displayed work must be the original work of the submitting artist; no copies or likenesses of other artists' or photographers' works.  This includes, but is not limited to: images from books, magazines, calendars, greeting cards, catalogs, and the internet.  Exception is made for the use of photographs from friends and family, with their permission.  Your work must not have been previously shown at Second Story Gallery.  We have a policy of accepting artists to exhibit only once per two year time span.

Two-dimensional pieces must be framed and ready to hang.

The gallery has an Arakawa hanging system with cables and a variety of hooks.
Saw-tooth hangers or clips will not work.

Maximum size for two-dimensional works is 7 feet high x 10 feet wide.  Each hanger will hold 50 pounds.

The gallery offers approximately 69 feet of linear wall space.  The elevator lobby offers an additional 7 feet.  The gallery will comfortably accommodate 28 medium-sized (24”x30”) framed pieces or 50 smaller pieces.  (A diagram with linear measurements can be found at the end of these guidelines.)

The artist will provide all labeling.  Labels should be computer generated or neatly hand printed.  Labels must be mounted on the wall only with the plastic adhesive provided by Second Story Gallery.

The gallery has over 15 wooden pedestals for 3D objects.

Publicity

If your work is selected for exhibit, the Society will coordinate promotional efforts with you.

Generally:  It is the responsibility of the artist to send any printed notices to your own mailing lists.

All printed advertising must be presented to the Second Story Gallery Society for review and approval prior to release.

All publicity should include the library’s name, address and hours:

Second Story Gallery, upstairs in the Camas Public Library
625 NE 4th Ave.
Camas, WA 98607
Mon-Thurs. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Fri-Sat, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sun: Closed

The Society maintains an e-mail list and sends its own electronic announcement for each show.

The Society also prepares and sends a news release to various publications (with digital samples of your work) in the period leading up to your show.

Every effort will be made to list your show in library publications, calendars of events, on the library’s and city’s web pages and in other advertising venues.

Receptions

If your work is selected for exhibit, the Society will coordinate reception details with you.  Generally:

An artist’s reception is held in conjunction with Downtown Camas’ First Friday events beginning at 5 p.m. and concluding at 8 p.m.

For the reception, the Society provides a table and a beverage, such as coffee, tea, or punch.  Any food will be the responsibility of the artist.

A kitchen is available for staging.  Artists will furnish their own food preparation equipment and supplies and leave the gallery and kitchen areas clean.

Alcoholic beverages may be allowed under certain conditions.  If this is of interest, please explore it with the Second Story Gallery Society Board of Governors.

Installation and removal

Second Story Gallery Society members will install each show.

All pieces exhibited must be listed on an inventory sheet presented at the time of delivery and should include each work’s name or description and value.

Artists are responsible for removing their show at the scheduled time and for leaving the gallery space in its original condition.  Society members or library staff will assist with removal and will review the inventory sheet.

Sales

Artists may sell from the exhibit.  Your name and contact information will be posted in the gallery.  Sales will be between the buyer and the artist.

If you wish to sell reproductions, you may provide a bin of unframed pieces if they are matted, labeled as prints and wrapped in plastic.

A 20 percent contribution to the gallery is requested.   At the close of the exhibit, checks should be made payable to the Second Story Gallery Society.

Liability and security

The library does not assume liability for injury or damage to personal property which occurs during exhibition at the library.

The library does not provide security.
